Do you suffer from
sinusitis, chronic sinusitis, or sick
sinus syndrome,
conditions caused primarily by mold?
"Molds have been an under
recognized health problem, but that is changing. Health-care professionals
now know that
molds can cause allergies, trigger asthma attacks and
increase susceptibility to colds and flu. Anyone with a genetic
predisposition can become allergic if exposed repeatedly to high enough
levels.
"Last year Dr. David Sherris at the Mayo Clinic performed a study of 210 patients with chronic
sinus infections and found that most had allergic fungal sinusitis.
The prevailing medical opinion has been that mold accounted for 6 to
7 percent of all chronic sinusitis. [The Mayo Clinic study] found
that it was
93
percent—the
exact reverse."

Sinuses are air pockets that are located in your face - the bony
cavity in your cheek area under your eyes, between your eyes, just
behind your nose, and in your forehead. They are attached to the
nasal passages via small tubes, which allow drainage to take place.
They act as the sound box of your body system to give resonance to
your voice. Sinuses are lined with mucous membrane similar to the
membranes of the nose, thus, infection from the nose can easily
spread into them. When these small tubes become blocked, sinus
problems, particularly sinusitis, begin. Sinusitis is an inflammation or infection of the air pockets on
either side of and behind the nose. It can be caused by bacteria,
viruses, fungi (molds) and possibly by allergies. Sinusitis occurs
when the bacteria infects the sinus cavities, usually due to
blockage of the small tubes attached to your nasal passages. This
causes an inflammation of your sinuses, which stops proper drainage.
There are
many aspects contributing to sinus inflammatory or sinusitis. The
most common core is the inflammatory or infectious cause ---
sinusitis caused by bacteria, viral, and
fungal infections, as well as allergies, polyps and reflux
disease.
Other causes are anatomical --- varying on the structures of
the sinuses which affect the breathing and the blocking of the nasal
drainage; lifestyle --- daily lifestyle choices that ensues
one’s vulnerability to sinusitis; developmental ---
development disorders caused by inherited defective genes; tumors
--- sinus and nasal tumors can block the nasal drainage and can also
cause sinusitis. Information taken from

Basically, there
are two types of sinusitis – acute
and chronic. Neither is better than the other.
-
Acute Bacterial Sinusitis
is an infection of the sinuses caused by bacteria. It is usually
preceded by cold, allergy attack or irritation by environmental
pollutants. In most cases, it is caused by a viral cold and will
typically resolves within two weeks.
-
Chronic
Sinusitis
is defined as sinusitis that lasts 12 weeks or more. It usually
develops because of sinus blockage or blockage in nasal drainage.
Since
the most common core of sinusitis is the inflammatory or infectious
cause --- sinusitis caused by fungal
infections, as well as allergies, polyps, reflux disease and
bacteria, you have to make sure that your home and real estate is
free from molds and mildew, which later may develop into molds, and
prevent any of their future growth.
