ALLERGY
Allergy is defined as an abnormal or
exaggerated and sometimes harmful reactions to external substances called
allergens. Examples of allergens are plant pollens, dusts, pollution,
trees, grasses, weeds, airborne mold spores, house dusts, house dust
mites, cockroaches and germs. Allergies are not contagious. Depending upon
the cause, it can create a number of medical
problems. Allergy symptoms vary a little from the
common cold. They include sneezing, watery eyes, coughing, itchiness in
the nose and throat, post nasal drip that stays clear, and perhaps a dull
headache. A high temperature and an achy body are not indicative that of
allergies. The symptoms last longer than a week and may be year round
(perennial allergies) depending on the allergen. Numerous allergens may
cause symptoms of seasonal allergies.
The most common type of allergy is nasal
allergy. The number of patients seem to be increasing, possibly because of
the air pollution. When the allergy is bad, any chilling can cause
symptoms. Please visit

to know more about nasal allergy. In an allergic reaction, the immune system
mistakenly interprets a harmless substance as a harmful one. The immune
system responds by producing antibodies called immunoglobulin E (IgE).
These IgE antibodies help neutralize specific parasitic invaders and
protect the person from future exposures. Upon first exposure to an
allergen, no allergic symptom develops. But when the person is exposed to
the same substance at a later time, the IgE antibodies against the
allergen activate an allergic reaction.
According to reliable source, most doctors
agree that not all allergies are all or none. You may be able to tolerate
a certain amount of an allergen without reacting. Once you exceed a certain amount, your body reacts.
The
amount of allergens tolerated can depend on a number of things such as
stress levels, the certain allergen, combination of allergens, illness and
others. However, this is not true to all allergens such as peanuts
and shellfish which may cause quick, life threatening reactions. After numerous times of experiencing, an
allergy sufferer can determine himself how much is okay or tolerable. For
some food allergies, rotation diet is recommended so that no one food is
ever eaten more than once in a 3 to 5 day period. The food juggling gets very
complicated, but some find that the rotation diet helps them. The best
thing to do research about it and discover it for yourself.
